European Inter-Lake network: Grand-Lieu Lake (France)
Located south of Nantes, the Grand-Lieu Lake is a large and shallow French lowland lake, (average depth 1.20 m). The surface of the water is seasonally variable: from less than 4,000 ha to over 6,000 ha. It is especially remarkable for its natural areas. Commercial fishing (eels) and marsh breeding are the only economic activities allowed.
It is represented in the inter-lake partnership by the President of the Union of the Catchment Basin.
